Activity 3: Part 1 Screencasting

I used Screenr to create a screen cast for students in my classroom to learn how to access my website and bookmark it for future use.  I also was able to explain how to use the different tabs on my website.

How to Access My Website and Bookmark

The process to create the screen cast (after I figured out how to download Java) was really easy!  I will definitely use this to do flipped classroom assignments, especially in math.  I have always wanted to do these type of screen casts, but using the equipment at school always seemed so difficult to figure out.  This was super easy and very intuitive!  I think using this screen cast will make my lessons even more interesting because it is a different and therefore, engaging way to communicate information to students.

  1. This turned out great! I had the same idea as you, but didn't think of including how to bookmark it for future use - will have to create a screencast for that as well. I'll have to chat with you about Screenr to see if it's easier to use than Snagit, which was what I tried. I agree that this is an excellent tool to communicate information with our students. Have you, or do you plan to do flipped classroom assignments with your students?

    1. I think that screenr and screencast-o-matic are easier than snagit but neither can be used on a Chromebook.

  3. Great job with this. I am glad that you are learning things that you always wanted to know how to do. Screencasting is probably my most used tool. I love it and its versatility. There are so many different things I can do with a screencast. I can have students watch at home. I can create videos and activities for class and have students work at their own pace. I can create video for when I am absent. So many things.

One thing about screencasting at school is that you will need a microphone because your desktop does not have an internal one. A usable mic costs less than 15 dollars but I don't want you to sit down to make a recording and be unsuccessful because the audio didn't work.

  4. Very nice, Lisa! Looks like you quickly figured out how to create these videos. I'm excited for us to be able to share ideas in the future. I used this same app as you to create a "How to create a newsela account." I saw on another blog the comment that if we show these videos on the smartboard, we can walk around and help students who are confused. Students could also watch the videos at their own pace if they plug headphones into their chromebooks. Nice work!!!

  5. I really like that you decided to do a screencast on how to find your website since so many students have trouble remembering how to do this. I have the same challenge with my students, so I opted to do my screencast on the same topic. I'm really hoping that it'll greatly reduce the number of times I have to guide them through the steps to find my site, and in turn give them more time to practice the concepts linked on my webiste. Thanks for the useful idea!
